Established in 1889, Main Street has been paved in brick with round-about intersections that add to a small town feel. The side roads are still dirt with the purpose to ensure that any oil that leaks out of a vehicle gets absorbed into the dirt and does not flow into the Butler Chain of Lakes. Expect to see a diverse variety of old and new homes as you drive through downtown. There are several quaint little shops in downtown for shopping purposes however, no major chain stores. You will find a very peaceful and country like atmosphere as you drive through the town. In recent years, a lot of old homes have been demolished and replaced with large beautiful homes that reflect updated building codes and new styles.

Windermere Arbor Day & Treebute

Windermere is well known for its Arbor Day and Treebute which is held every January. January is considered a good time of the year to plant trees.
